New report from Hydrogen Europe on the potential impact that large-scale production of hydrogen could have on the transition of the energy system in Europe Although the scenarios used in the report are optimistic, i.e. considering 40 GW hydrogen production in North Africa and Ukraine by 2030, it nevertheless provides a starting point for discussions related to the hydrogen economy. Hydrogen as an energy carrier could be used to decarbonise various demand sectors such as transport, heavy industry, shipping, buildings and aviation. The l-scale integration of intermittent renewable energy producers requires a massive infrastructure for the conversion of electricity to gas, the transport and storage of hydrogen.
